I was sent a link to this series of videos about four young people and their mobile phone usage. It is a fascinating insight into what these young people are thinking about their mobile phone usage.
The series is titled “The Disconnect.” A generation of Irish young people has grown up in a world where a phone is as important as food or water. This coming-of-age documentary explores the relationship we have with our screens. There are three videos:
- Overwhelmed – Where do the benefits of social media use begin and where do they end among the many hours of scrolling and typing? 11 minutes
- The Replacement – How has communication changed in an era of instant messaging and social media posts? We explore the effect social media has on our mental health and well-being. 10 minutes.
- Reconnecting – How do we create healthier social lives in an evolving social media climate? We hear about the boundaries that are necessary to handle our perception of real life versus the online world. 10 minutes
Filmed in Ireland by RTE.
