The past nine months have been a season of significant growth and development, marked by tangible progress on the land and the deepening of relationships with young people. While our focus remains firmly on building authentic connections rather than chasing numbers, we are pleased to report significant achievements across various areas.
Land Development
- Barn Construction: The completion of our new barn provides a versatile space for workshops, gatherings, and storage. This has significantly enhanced our capacity to host activities and provide resources for young people.
- Polytunnel Erection: The installation of a polytunnel has expanded our gardening capabilities, allowing us to grow fresh produce and involve young people in hands-on learning about sustainable food production.
- Chicken Enclosure: This project has provided valuable opportunities for young people to learn practical skills in construction and animal care.
Youth Engagement
We have engaged with over 200 young people in the past nine months, building relationships through a variety of activities and initiatives. Our focus remains on:
- Relationship Building: Creating a safe and welcoming space where young people feel valued and heard.
- Confidence Building: Providing opportunities for young people to develop new skills, take on challenges, and discover their potential.
- Skill Development: Offering practical workshops and hands-on experiences in areas like gardening, construction, and animal care.
Funding and Resources
While we are grateful for the funding received, it’s important to note that the majority has been allocated to building materials and land development. Securing funding for salaries remains a key priority to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.
Team and Volunteers
We are blessed with a dedicated team who share a passion for serving young people and building community. Anna has been instrumental in support and providing a needed second hand. Nigel and Linda have been actively involved in supporting the project through prayer and practical assistance. We are also immensely grateful for the invaluable help of our volunteers – Nigel, Nick, Guy, Martin, and Anna – who have dedicated their time and skills to various projects, including building chicken enclosures, tidying the shed, putting a roof on the barn, and covering the polytunnel.
Training and Development
Significant progress has been made in developing a comprehensive training course for Christian detached youth workers. This resource, available at https://gucu.org.uk/training/training-outline-for-christian-detached-youth-workers/, aims to equip and empower those working with young people in informal settings.
Personal Growth
My personal commitment to spiritual growth remains strong. I have consistently attended cell group and attended some church services, seeking to deepen my understanding of the Bible and effectively communicate its truths to young people. This has led to the creation of several Bible commentaries with accompanying questions designed to engage young minds and foster spiritual exploration.
Looking Ahead
We are excited about the future of the project and the potential to impact even more young lives. We remain committed to creating a space where young people can connect, grow, and discover their purpose. We believe that by investing in relationships and providing opportunities for personal development, we can empower the next generation to thrive.
