The world throws a lot at young people today. From climate anxiety to the pressures of social media, it’s no wonder they’re facing unprecedented challenges. This series dives into the biggest issues affecting youth today, and explores how we can support them in navigating these turbulent times.
There are many challenges facing young people today, and some of these issues are more prominent than others. This mini series could reach huge lengths and so I have tried to pick some of the most pressing issues. I am focusing on young people living in the UK but some of these issues will apply to other areas in the world.
Mental health
The number of young people experiencing mental health difficulties is on the rise. This can be due to a variety of factors, including stress, pressure to succeed, and social media.
Climate change
Young people are increasingly concerned about the impact of climate change on their future. They are also worried about the inaction of governments and businesses on this issue.
Economic inequality
The gap between rich and poor is widening, and this is making it difficult for young people to get ahead. Many young people are struggling to find affordable housing, pay for education, and secure well-paying jobs.
Social media
Social media can be a great way for young people to connect with each other, but it can also have a negative impact on their mental health and self-esteem.
Discrimination
Young people from marginalised groups, such as people of colour and LGBTQ+ people, face discrimination in many areas of life. This can make it difficult for them to access education, employment, and medicine.
These are just some of the many challenges facing young people today. It is important to remember that young people are resilient and have the potential to overcome these challenges. With the right support, they can build a better future for themselves and for the world.
