Prayer can encompass every aspect of our lives. It’s not just about asking for things; it’s about building a relationship with God.
Praying for Others
Jesus taught us to love our neighbours as ourselves. We should try to pray for our family, friends, teachers, and even those you find difficult. “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).
Praying for Needs
It’s okay to bring our needs to God. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). However, it’s important to remember that God’s will may be different from our desires.
Praying for Guidance
Ask God for wisdom and direction in making decisions. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Praying for the World
Pray for peace, justice, and healing in the world. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
Celtic Prayer Example
“Deep peace of the running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the smiling stars to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the watching shepherds to you.
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you.”
