We’ve all been there. We map out our futures, dream big, and make plans. College, careers, relationships – we’ve got it all figured out (or so we think!). But Proverbs 19:21 gives us a gentle nudge: “There are many plans in a person’s mind, but it is the counsel of the LORD which will stand.” Whoa. Mic drop, right?
This verse isn’t saying our plans are bad. It’s just a reminder that God’s perspective is so much bigger than ours. He sees the whole picture, while we only see a tiny snapshot. Sometimes, our carefully laid plans might not align with His best for us. And that’s okay! It might even be a good thing.
Think of it like a GPS. You might have a destination in mind, but sometimes the GPS reroutes you because of traffic or road closures. It’s not changing your destination, just guiding you the best way. God does the same thing in our lives. He might redirect us, not because He wants to mess up our plans, but because He has something even better in store.
So, what do we do with this? We dream big, we plan, but we also hold those plans loosely. We pray for guidance, we listen to what God is saying, and we trust that even when things don’t go exactly as we expected, He’s still working for our good.
Prayer
God, I have so many plans and dreams. Help me to hold them loosely and to trust in your perfect plan for my life. Show me when to pursue my own ideas and when to follow your guidance, even if it means changing course. I trust that your way is always best. Amen.
