Our Cornish Dream: Off-Grid Living and Community Building

We’re dreaming of a life closer to nature, a life powered by the sun and wind, a life where community thrives and young people flourish. That’s why we’re setting our sights on finding land around Fowey, Lostwithiel, Par, or St Blazey in Cornwall.

Why this area?

This corner of Cornwall holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a place of stunning natural beauty, with rolling hills, lush valleys, and a dramatic coastline. It’s also an area rich in history and community spirit, with charming towns and villages that offer a sense of belonging.

Our Vision: An Off-Grid Oasis

Our dream is to build an off-grid home, a sustainable haven powered by a mix of renewable energy sources. We want to experiment with:

• Solar Power: Harnessing the Cornish sun with photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.
• Wind Power: Utilising small wind turbines to capture the coastal breezes.
• Hydro Power: Exploring the potential of micro-hydro systems to generate power from nearby streams.

We envision a single-story home, nestled close to the earth, built with natural and sustainable materials. We’ll embrace eco-friendly practices like composting toilets and rainwater harvesting. And of course, we’ll have chickens and ducks roaming the land, providing fresh eggs and adding to the rural charm.

More than just a home

But this is about more than just building a house. We want to create a welcoming space for others, a place where people can connect with nature, learn new skills, and build community. We’re particularly excited about the idea of:

• Welcoming House Vans: Offering a place for people living in vans to park up, connect to services, and become part of our community.
• Creating a Supportive Environment: Fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and collaboration, where people can share their knowledge and passions.
• Empowering Young People: Providing opportunities for young people to learn about sustainable living, gain practical skills, and develop their potential.

We believe that by living simply and sustainably, we can create a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to do the same. We’re excited to embark on this adventure and see what the future holds!
