Ever feel like you’re constantly running, always busy, never really stopping? Hebrews 4:10 talks about a different kind of rest: “For the one who enters God’s rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works.” This isn’t just about sleeping in on Sunday; it’s about finding a deeper kind of rest in God.
Think about it: God rested after creation. Not because He was tired, but because the work was finished. In the same way, when we come to Jesus, we can rest from trying to earn God’s love or prove our worth. That work is done by Jesus! He’s already done everything necessary for us to be accepted by God.
This rest isn’t laziness. It’s about trusting that God is in control. It’s about letting go of our worries and anxieties, knowing that He’s got our back. It’s about finding peace in His presence, even when life is hectic.
So, how do we enter this rest? It starts with faith. It’s about believing in Jesus and trusting in His promises. It’s about spending time with God, talking to Him in prayer, and reading His Word. It’s a process, but the reward is incredible: a deep, lasting peace that comes from knowing we’re loved and cared for by God.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for the rest you offer. Help me to let go of my worries and trust in you. Show me how to find peace in your presence, even when I’m busy. Thank you for finishing the work so I can rest in you. Amen.
