Ever scrolled through social media and felt that pang of envy? Seeing everyone’s cool stuff, amazing vacations, and seemingly perfect lives can make you feel like you’re missing out. But Jesus has a different perspective. In Luke 12:15, he warns us, “Watch out and guard yourself from all types of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
Think about it. Do things really make you happy? Maybe for a little while, but true and lasting joy comes from something much deeper. Jesus is saying that our worth isn’t measured by what we own. He’s inviting us to find our value in Him, in our relationships, and in living a life of purpose.
It’s easy to get caught up in the chase for more – the latest phone, the trendiest clothes, the biggest house. But Jesus reminds us that true life is about so much more than that. It’s about love, kindness, generosity, and following Him. It’s about living a life that makes a difference, not just a life that’s filled with stuff.
So, how do we guard ourselves from greed? Start by being grateful for what you already have. Focus on the people in your life who love you. Use your gifts and talents to help others. And remember that Jesus is the source of true abundance – a life rich in love, joy, and purpose.
Prayer
Jesus, help me to see the difference between what is temporary and what is eternal. Guard me from the trap of greed and help me to find my worth in you. Teach me to be content with what I have and to use my blessings to bless others. Amen.
