Life can be full of ups and downs, right? One minute you’re riding high, the next you’re plummeting down a steep drop. School stress, friendship dramas, figuring out your future – it can all feel overwhelming sometimes. It’s in those moments I cling to a powerful promise from Jesus in John 16:33: “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage – I have conquered the world.”
Think about that for a second. Jesus knows we’re going to face tough times. He doesn’t make it sound pretty. He says, “In the world you will have trouble and suffering.” It’s not a matter of if, but when. Knowing that everyone goes through struggles can actually be a comfort in itself, you’re not alone.
But here’s where the message changes: Jesus offers us peace in Him. Not peace because everything around us is perfect, but peace that comes from knowing He’s with us, no matter what. He’s already conquered the world! That means He’s bigger than any problem we face. He’s already won!
So how do we grab hold of this peace? By staying close to Jesus. By reading His word, talking to Him in prayer, and trusting in His love. It’s a daily choice, a daily practice.
When the waves of trouble crash around you (and they will!), remember Jesus’ words. Take courage. He’s conquered the world. You’re not going through it alone.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for your promise of peace. We know life will be hard, but help us to find our peace in you. Help us to remember that you’ve already overcome the world and that you’re always with us. Give us courage to face whatever comes our way, knowing that you are by our side. Amen.
