I am adding a new topic on this site where I will be blogging about the ups and downs of a Christian life. At this point I am reminded of Adrian Plass’ first diary entry in his amusing book, The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass. He basically opens his diary with an opening paragraph detailing how he will write a diary inspiring Christians to greater growth and providing wisdom. He then writes, “Couldn’t think of anything.”
I hope that I will be able to think of something! Today, I pause for thought to ask, “Why?” It is something of a mystery to me that I sometimes plough on with an activity or service because God told me to and we saw great fruit from the activity or service. Is it right to keep going or stop. Only God can tell! But here are some tips…..
- You can hear God’s voice through reading his word and talking to him, the first place you need to go.
- The Holy Spirit can talk to you in a variety of ways including dreams and visions, so be open and ready to receive. In Acts they even threw dice to hear from God!
- Talk to your friends and leadership. God will guide other people if you’re being a bit dense! Time to get that ear wax cleaned out.
- And watch out because if you don’t listen circumstances can be how God will guide you next. You need rest and you’re not listening, you’ll end up in bed! So review your circumstances.
Ultimately, it takes a lifetime to hear from God and unless you start today you might never start. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and sometimes God says Go but he can also say Stop.
