Radical Acceptance: Jesus Chooses You

This is not just a story; it’s an invitation into a community where you’re chosen, habits and all.

In the Bible Jesus is building a team called disciples, but it’s all those guys that get picked first. It’s a bunch of misfits. We’re talking about fishermen, a tax collector, and even a guy known for stirring up trouble. Jesus isn’t recruiting based on how brilliant they are; He is picking hearts.

Mark 3 is where Jesus hands out nicknames. What is exciting is the nicknames have a purpose and rather be an insult or rude, they show that Jesus has a purpose for his disciples. James and John? Sons of Thunder. Simon? Rock. Levi? Tax collector turned disciple. Jesus knows your habits and character and embraces them. No need for a fancy title; just be you.

In Mark 3 Jesus is creating a new family—a family bound by faith and love.

Jesus talks about a kingdom showdown, but it’s not a battle of swords. It’s a clash between good and evil. The strong man (that’s Jesus) breaks in and sets captives free. It’s a revolution of love.

People start questioning Jesus’ sanity. “Is this guy for real?” Why? Because His teachings and actions are blowing their minds. Following Jesus isn’t always ‘normal,’ and that’s the beauty of it.

Jesus goes into storytelling mode and we meet parables for the first time. He is using parables as a way to open hearts to a new way of thinking, a kingdom mindset where everyone is invited.

Jesus starts laying out the details of discipleship. It’s a commitment. It’s denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following Him. It’s not the easy road, but it’s the road to true life.

Mark 3 is saying:

You’re accepted.
You’re part of a radical community where love, mission, and following Jesus redefine everything.
