This passage takes us on a secret journey with Jesus and his disciples through Galilee. It’s a quiet time for teaching, away from the crowds that usually follow Jesus.
What Happened?
Jesus tells his disciples something shocking: “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise” (Mark 9:31).
Why is this Important?
This is the second time Jesus predicts his death and resurrection to his disciples. It’s a central theme in the Bible, but it’s also a hard truth to understand. The disciples don’t get it, and they’re too afraid to ask for clarification.
What Does This Mean for Us?
This passage teaches us several things:
- Jesus’ mission: Jesus came to earth with a purpose, to suffer and die for our sins. This is the heart of the Christian message.
- The importance of understanding: The disciples’ confusion reminds us that sometimes God’s plans are difficult to grasp. It’s okay to ask questions and seek understanding.
- The power of fear: Fear can hold us back from learning and growing. The disciples’ fear prevented them from asking Jesus about his words. We need to overcome our fears so we can fully understand God’s truth.
