Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.”
Matthew 4:4 MSG
Jesus has two things in mind as he quotes this passage from Deuteronomy, firstly, when the Israelite’s were in the wilderness God was able to feed and sustain them via other means. Secondly, it is God’s will whether I live or die and in Jesus we can lose our life by placing it in his hands but in doing so we gain our life. God’s living word is life itself and I encourage you this morning to place it before him, he will bring glory to himself through your life.
Father, True Essence of the Godhead, have mercy on us.
Father, the Light and Creator of all things, have mercy on us.
Father, who sealed humanity with your image, have mercy on us.
Christ, True God and True Man, have mercy on us.
Christ, Rising Sun, through whom are all things, have mercy on us.
Christ, Perfection of Wisdom, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, Power of life, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, Breath of Life, life of all things, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, bringer of holiness and grace, have mercy on us.
O Consoler of the sorrowing soul, have mercy on us. Amen
