Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
Hebrews 13 v 5-6
Money, it is a very hot topic and yet we don’t get very much good advice. Have you ever heard a bank say, “Enjoy what I already have!” What financial institutions don’t tell you is that if you win the rat race, you’re still a rat.
If you want to indulge in the jet set then you will be part of the debt set. There is no easy payment plan. It will cost.
There is a major difference between complacency and contentment. Contentment is to enjoy what you have now, rather than saying, “I will be happy when…” Your yearnings will always exceed your earnings. This is why the Bible says so much about money. Jesus wants to give you contentment and to live in His peace. Financial institutions, shops, society is driving people to own more, buy more. I love the minimalist writers who encourage us to live with less.
J John once suggested we live by this motto:-
“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”
Father God
You encourage us to live day by day
To trust you with all our needs
To trust you as the Sparrow does
You clothe the flowers in splendour
Help us to stop grabbing
Help us to rest in you
And trust
Love you Lord
Amen
