Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. It gets us back in the way of salvation. We never regret that kind of pain. But those who let distress drive them away from God are full of regrets, end up on a deathbed of regrets.
2 Corinthians 7:10 MSG
Paul is nearing the end of his missionary career and he summed up his preaching by enforcing his desire to see us repent, to get us back in the way of salvation. When nearing the end of your life you don’t waste time on idle chatter you want to say the words that everyone will focus on. When I die I want to leave a tape to my family and the first thing it will say is:
“You are thinking I am dead when I am not, I am more alive than you can imagine.”
That is what repentance and faith has done for me and it is what Paul is exhorting us to remember.
Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the shining stars to you,
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you.
May the road rise to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back;
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
May the rains fall softly upon your fields.
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. Amen
