So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!—to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did. A soldier on duty doesn’t get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It’s the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over. God will make it all plain.
2 Timothy 2:2-7 The Message (MSG)
Paul is exhorting Timothy to stand firm and be strong in the grace that is in Jesus. He gives him directions on how to do this and these are relevant for us today.
No condemnation. Jesus has done it all. Confess and be forgiven, you do not need to stand in condemnation anymore.
Stand to last. Eternity is not time it is experience.
And stand in His favour. Standing in God’s favour is amazing. I can’t believe I am writing this – even writing it is an awesome privilege. He, our Father is encouraging me to write this. I stand in His favour. He believes in me. I believe and trust in Him but He believes and trusts me!
May the blessing of light be on you, light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire, so that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it.
And may light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house, bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.
And may the blessing of the rain be on you, may it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines, and sometimes a star.
And may the blessing of the earth be on you, soft under your feet as you pass along the roads, soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day; and may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly; up and off and on its way to God. And now may the Lord bless you, and bless you kindly.
