Romans 1 v 16-18 – No Shame in the Gospel

So, why isn’t Paul ashamed? Because he knows the gospel is the very power of God at work in the world. It’s not just a bunch of nice ideas; it’s a force that can transform lives from the inside out. And this transformation isn’t just for a select few; it’s available to everyone who believes, starting with the Jews and then extending to all people.

God’s Righteousness Revealed

The gospel doesn’t just offer a change of heart; it reveals something incredible about God. It shows us His righteousness—His perfect goodness and justice. This righteousness isn’t something we earn through our own efforts; it’s a gift we receive through faith in Jesus. And as we live by faith, God’s righteousness becomes more and more evident in our lives.

God’s Wrath Revealed

But verse 18 takes a bit of a turn. It talks about God’s wrath being revealed against those who suppress the truth. This doesn’t mean God is an angry, vengeful being. Instead, it means He is deeply opposed to sin and injustice. When people choose to ignore or reject the truth about Him, they face the consequences of their choices.

  • Don’t be ashamed of your faith: Just like Paul, we shouldn’t be embarrassed or shy about our belief in Jesus. It’s the most important thing in our lives!
  • Embrace the gospel’s power: The gospel isn’t just a story; it’s a dynamic force that can change us and the world around us. Let’s live in the power of the gospel every day!
  • Live by faith: God’s righteousness is a gift we receive through faith. As we trust in Jesus and follow Him, we become more and more like Him.
  • Respect God’s holiness: While God is loving and merciful, He is also holy and just. We need to take sin seriously and strive to live lives that honour Him.
