Ever felt left out or like you didn’t belong? Maybe because of your background, gender, or social status? Paul’s letter to the Galatians tackles this head-on with a radical message for its time, and ours.
What’s the Scene?
Some early Christians were saying, “To be really God’s people, you gotta follow Jewish laws on top of believing in Jesus.” Paul’s like, “Whoa, hold up! That’s missing the point entirely.”
What’s Paul Saying?
- Before Jesus, we were stuck: It’s like we were little kids, needing rules to keep us in line because we didn’t get the bigger picture yet (v. 23).
- But now, faith in Jesus changes EVERYTHING: It’s like growing up. We’re not under the babysitter (the law) any more, we’re part of the family because we trust what Jesus did (v. 24-25).
- And in God’s family, EVERYONE is equal: Doesn’t matter if you’re Jew or Gentile, male or female, slave or free. If you’re in Christ, you’re ALL IN – God’s children, heirs to the promise (v. 26-29).
Why This Matters for YOU
- No more labels: Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough for God because of who you are or where you come from.
- Belonging: In Christ, you’re part of the most inclusive, loving family ever. You are wanted, valued, and have a place.
- Purpose: Being God’s child isn’t just about what you get, it’s about what you’re part of. God has an incredible plan that involves YOU.
Questions to Chew On
- Have you ever felt excluded from something because of who you are? How does this passage challenge that feeling?
- What does it mean to be “in Christ”? How do we get there?
- If everyone is equal in God’s eyes, how should that affect how we treat others?
- What are some practical ways you can live out this “one family” message in your school, friend group, or online?
- What “promises” is Paul talking about that we become heirs to? (Hint: check out the rest of the Bible!)
Challenge
This week, look for someone who seems left out or different. Go out of your way to make them feel welcome and valued. Remember, God’s family doesn’t have a VIP section. We’re all in this together.
