I keep looking out on our garden and smiling. It has been a productive year and the garden has fed us some wonderful fruit, salads and herbs. I love the way the garden looks although it does need tidying. I am now starting to think about the Autumn jobs.
First thing first, we need to move the black currants and cut them back. They really have taken over too much of the garden. If we move them then we also claim back some of the grass space which the kids would love. Abi keeps telling me she wants to do cart wheels in the garden! Next year Abi, Mia and I are going to start bivvying and to start in our back garden is probably good idea.
Secondly, I want to finish the pond. The pond itself is finished and full of rain water but no fish. So I need to build the stream and fill it with clay pellets so next year we can fill it with salad leaves and actually have our aquaponics up and running. It will be exciting.
Thirdly, I need to top up the raised beds a bit and give them some love. We need to work out some strategy with those pesky slugs and that brings me on to our fourth job.
Fourthly, I will be getting a couple of Indian Runner ducks into the garden. They can keep the slugs at bay, bring in some life and make the garden a bit of fun. We love ducks and their eggs make cracking cakes.
Fifthly we need to get some rustic trellis along the fence. We have a grape, a rose and a Jasmine that would love some trellis.
Finally, we need a general tidy up. The mulch keeps the weeds at bay but we need to trim the grass and move some plants, thin them out and spread around the garden.
