Time to put the garden to bed? But what do I have to do?
As the leaves are now falling off the fruit bushes it is time to prune them. They have grown very large and need some slimming down. I also need to move a couple to a more appropriate place.
We planted some very young apple trees a couple of years ago and it is now time to start shaping them and preparing them for sleep. It might be better to wait until late winter or early spring to do this.
It is also time to do some hard landscaping and getting the pond up and running. in this respect I need to:
- Put trellis up along the fence for all the climbers we have
- Create the planting bed for the aquaponics and fix up the pond pump and syphon system
- Our shed whilst it looks pretty is way too small. There is also some ground that is simply wasted and unused around the shed. We intend to enlarge the shed and also create a platform on top for a tree house/viewing platform.
- With the space created by the bushes I can now move the picnic bench to a better location and install the fire pit. We have a washing machine drum to use for this.
Whilst I am not a great fan of Autumn and Winter this a time I enjoy the garden. I like tidying and ordering things and this is the time for me to do that in the garden. I am also excited to be writing this as only a few weeks ago I would not have been able to contemplate this. I really wasn’t feeling well after the op and digging and moving plants would have been way beyond me.
So it is time to put the garden to sleep and get it ready for it’s soon to be Spring wake up. Goodnight.
