To Do lists
A goals list or a bucket list
But what is a vision for your life?
What is your purpose in life? Identify your core values, what makes you as a person? How do you see your life unfolding? Be as specific as possible and less generic.
For me as a Christian, as I develop a vision for my life, my fundamental vision for my life can be summed up in Matthew 6 v 33 (The Message version)
Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
I need to surrender my life to God. If I surrender my life to him, I am asking him to shape my vision and what does the Bible say, “Don’t worry about missing out”. God knows me better than I know myself. He numbers every hair on my head. He promises to meet all my everyday human concerns.
This hymn has been an important part of my life over the last 30+ years as a Christian. It is a sung prayer written by Dallan Forgaill. It is a traditional hymn from Ireland. It is a powerful hymn invoking protection. What better way to start the day than to pray this as you move throughout the day.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tow’r:
Raise Thou me heav’nward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
