It is no secret to those who know me that my main love and reading pleasure is the Bible. It continues to draw me with it’s range of subjects, engaging reads but most of all, it tells the story of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
However, that aside the genre I read the most is crime. I enjoy Agatha Christie, Colin Dexter creation of Morse and W.J. Burley with his main man Wycliffe. But I also enjoy reading M.C.Beaton who has to main characters. I recently write this to Ms.Beaton,
I was remarking yesterday that as an author you had created two characters, one of whom I detest and one of whom I love. Is it perhaps the male in me that has such a distaste for Agatha Raisin and such a love for Hamish MacBeth? I am unsure.
However, what I have noted is that another favourite author of mine is Agatha Christie and she also, has created many different characters but centred her works on two, Hercule Poroit and Miss Jane Marple. Similar to your two hero’s they both sleuth in different ways.
I wanted to write and say thanks and also compliment you on writing such engaging novels. I have finally stumbled and will hesitate in continuing to read any more Agatha Raisin novels. Hamish MacBeth will continue to be one of my top reads.
Living in Cornwall, we don’t have a village bobby anymore, but were we ever to be graced with one again, I will raise interview questions based on the character of Hamish and hope that we are able to find someone who engages with the public as he does (without the murders though).
I have laughed and cried at his many accomplishments and hope one day to read Death of a Cornish person!
Maybe the slender of posts will encourage you to look into any of the authors I enjoy.
