Some languages have words for which there is no single, or direct, translation. In Danish, hygge (pronounced “HUE-gah”) is one such word.
Though there are many ways to describe hygge, we see it simply as the Danish ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Friends. Family. Graciousness. Contentment. Good feelings. A warm glow. Certainly, hygge is intrinsic to the Danish lifestyle, but this feeling of well-being, so deeply satisfying and cozy, is something we all experience, each in our own way.
I love this idea of a family/friends together time. It is a time to slow down and take pleasure from the gentle, the soothing. Light a candle! Drink hot chocolate or whatever but simply slow down and relax with friends and family.
