The girls school asked me to make them a playhouse to fit a specific table in their infant classroom. After spending many enjoyable hours on pinterest I decided it was time to make…
*As you can see from the photos my table was not the same length or height as the school one so it doesn’t entirely fit for the pictures, but I hope you get the idea 😉
The brief was a multifunctional playhouse that was as open ended as possible. The teachers wanted the children to be able to imprint their imagination on it rather than it to describe what it was meant to be. They have been doing a lot of forest school and their current theme involves bears so I went with Brown and green felt.
I chose felt as it is tough and versatile, it doesn’t fray and with a bit of velcro we could make numerous additions to stick on and remove at will.
I wanted a green roof as I felt they could use it as a “garden”. I velcro’d all the side seams and incorporated tabs so each and every side can roll up or down depending on the function.
I included plenty of windows, for the teachers visibility as well as breathability, imagine how hot and stuffy it could get with a few children in there.
There is a round window, a square window, a triangle window and a rectangular window. Can you spot them all? Sorry I’m behaving like I’m in the classroom.
A couple of the windows had covers which could be rolled up or down depending on the function.
Finally a door with a letter box. I figured this was a vital addition for the infants. what child does not enjoy “posting” things? Wether its his mothers credit card between the floor boards or todays post back out of the door…. Although I do feel that the letter box makes the house look a little sad :(.
As you can see from the above posts my dog quite liked this house I couldn’t get her to move while I was taking photos, heres some of her most successful photo bombs.
If anyone would like me to put together a how to, just let me know.
