Post op you are told many things. One of the biggest problems I have had is adjusting mentally to not being able to pee properly.
After the op your bladder has a catheter fitted for up to 2 weeks. The catheter can irritate the end of your penis by the way. Worse than that is when you poo. Because your poo travels past the area where your prostate used to be it irritates those nerves and it is agony. Short term pain but it is agony.
Once the catheter is removed (and this is a major relief) you bladder needs to kick start. I was fortunate with mine in that it started almost immediately and I pee’d four times within a couple of hours of having the catheter removed. The trick here is to make sure you drink plenty of fluids before the catheter is removed.
Anyway, the bladder needs to kick start. My bladder kick started almost immediately but it still isn’t working 100%. The problems I have are dribbling, reduced bladder (I seem to wee loads more than I use to) and pain in my penis. The pain is receding but it still there 2 weeks later. It could be there for up to 6 weeks after the operation.
I’ll be happy when I finally am fully healed!
